The Badfish Monarch is a seriously nice mid-range paddle board that you’ll absolutely love! Not only is it high quality, easy to use and has great performance on the water, but it also comes at a nice price for what you get. It has a large deckpad that lets you move around on the board easily, it’s stable and works in pretty much any water conditions and it’s not bad to look at either (1). The downside is that it has limited storage so you won’t be taking this on really long trips, but that’s not the purpose of this SUP after all. Great board. Love it!

– Best Use: All-Around, Flatwater, Travel

Overall Thoughts:

Our Rating

The Flyweight is their most recent board and their major focus was to reduce the weight by ALOT. Weighing in at 18 lbs, this is a Badfish stand up paddle board that is extremely easy to travel with. It has 3 removable fins that let you fold it up into a small ball, and the smaller size makes it really easy to move around. Plus – it comes with really nice additions like a cup holder and GoPro mount included. It is stable and high functioning for even heavier riders, and the only downside that I found was that the bag wasn’t the best. All around this is a board that many people will absolutely adore.

– Love how vibrant and colorful it is.

– They’ve included some nice additions like an integrated water holder and GoPro mount.

– Extremely lightweight and easy to carry (even for teens and women)

– Easy to transport with detachable fins and the small size.
– The bag didn’t feel very good on my back and seemed to be a bit flimsy.

– Less stable than other SUPs (it’s pretty narrow)

The Flyweight from Badfish is the latest innovation in their inflatable paddle board lineup, standing out with its light 18-pound frame. It’s designed to be more compact and lightweight than typical inflatable boards, making it highly portable and easy to take along on any trip. – Weight of 27lbs (12.25 kg)

– Weight capacity of 270 lbs (122.47 kg)

– Recommended inflation 12 – 14 PSi

– Warranty of 3 years

– Best Use: Touring, Flatwater, Sea

Overall Thoughts:

Our Rating

If you’re into touring then this is a really nice Badfish paddle board. They’ve optimized the design so that it’s narrower (so you can build up speed), while still being very stable. This is all thanks to a new rail section that they added to the tail called the Wiki rail. This lets it navigate choppy water nicely and pick up speed. It comes at a great price for a really nice SUP, it’s a bit less forgiving than the more all-around Monarch, but it’s a really nice SUP.

– Great price for a nice paddle board

– It navigates choppy water really well with a high amount of stability

– Has nice acceleration on the water and you can pick up some nice speed.

– They’ve added in a rail on the tail section called a ‘Wiki rail’ that adds stability.
– A bit less forgiving than the Monarch, this is a faster board that’s a bit more narrow.

Other Details:

The Wayfarer paddle board offers a luxurious approach to touring. Dubbed the SUV of paddle boards, it features an innovative 5.6-inch thick drop stitch construction that enhances volume for better buoyancy and stability. The board is designed for a smooth and speedy ride, thanks to the new Wiki Rail on the tail that helps in efficient water release and stability improvement.

For those who love customizing their experience, the Wayfarer includes a Scotty™ mount, making it possible to attach a variety of accessories such as a GPS, cell phone, or fishing rod, tailoring the board to your specific needs. This board measures 11’6″ long and 31″ wide, supports a weight range from 100 to 270 pounds, and is built to offer both speed and stability, making it your go-to choice for stylish and efficient paddle boarding adventures. It also features a removable tri-fin setup for easy maneuverability, an integrated water bottle holder for hydration on the go, and a wide, padded carry handle for comfortable transportation. Additionally, it comes with a 3-year warranty, ensuring that it remains a durable and reliable part of your outdoor gear.

Shape & Construction:

The Badfish Wayfarer uses the proprietary Exo Skeleton construction process and also includes a ‘Wiki rail’ on the tail that helps with stability.

What The Shape Means:
This is a longer board (11’6″) that is quite narrow (31″) this will make the SUP a little bit more wobbly but will improve the acceleration drastically. They have added in the Wiki rail to improve stability so overall it’s pretty stable.

What’s Included:

The kit contains:

  • Badfish paddle board – Wayfarer
  • Dual-Action Pump & Hose
  • Breakdown 3-Piece Travel Paddle
  • Board Bag Backpack
  • 11′ Coiled Ankle leash
  • Fins (Tri-Fin Setup)

Which Badfish Paddle Board Should You Choose?

When it comes to picking a Badfish paddle board, you’ve got three great options, each suited to different needs and preferences in 2024.

1. Badfish Monarch (Best All-Around): The Monarch is a fantastic choice for just about anyone. It performs well in various water conditions, is stable, easy to use, and looks good too. It’s perfect for casual use and day trips on the water. The only downside is that it doesn’t have much space for gear, so it might not be the best for longer adventures.

2. Badfish Flyweight (Best Travel SUP): If you’re often on the move, the Flyweight is your go-to. It’s super lightweight and easy to pack up, making it a dream for travel. It’s also got some neat features like a place to mount your GoPro and a cup holder. However, it’s a bit narrower than some other boards, which means it might not feel as stable, especially if you’re a bigger person or in rougher water.

3. Badfish Wayfarer (Best for Touring): Designed for longer journeys, the Wayfarer is like the SUV of paddle boards. It’s built to be fast and smooth in the water, which is great if you’re into touring. It’s a bit narrower, so it can move quickly but might wobble a bit more than the Monarch. It’s also got some cool extras like a spot to attach a GPS or fishing rod.

Each board has its perks and slight drawbacks, so the best one for you really depends on what you’re looking for in a paddle board.

Other Factors You Should Consider:

Take a look at these factors when making your choice:

Skill Level:Beginner boards are more stable and forgiving, while advanced boards offer better performance and speed.
Purpose:Touring boards are for distance and speed, allrounders for general use, and specific designs (women’s, kids’) cater to particular needs.
Physical AttributesWeight, height, and strength should match the board’s design and capabilities for optimal performance.
Storage & Transportation:Inflatable boards are easier to store and transport, making them ideal for those with limited space.

Ultimately, the best choice depends on matching the board’s characteristics with the paddler’s needs, so go through this and make your pick 🙂

What Accessories Should You Get?

When you’re getting into paddle boarding, a few key accessories can really enhance your experience. Here’s a simple list of essentials to consider:

  1. Paddle: Obviously, you need a good paddle. Look for one that’s adjustable to match your height for the best comfort and performance.
  2. Life Jacket: Safety first! Even if you’re a strong swimmer, a life jacket is a must. It keeps you safe and can also provide a bit of extra warmth on cooler days.
  3. Leash: A leash ties you to your paddle board. If you fall off, the board won’t drift away from you, making it easier to get back on.
  4. Waterproof Bag: These are great for keeping your things dry while you’re out on the water. Stuff like your phone, keys, and a snack can go in here.
  5. Sun Protection: Don’t forget about the sun. A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen will protect you from UV rays.
  6. Repair Kit: Especially if you have an inflatable board, a repair kit can be a lifesaver. It’ll help you patch up any punctures or leaks that might happen.

These accessories aren’t just add-ons; they’re part of making your paddle boarding safe and enjoyable. So, it’s worth investing in these to make sure you have a great time out on the water.

My initial goal was to document my paddleboarding experiences with friends and family, but that has evolved into a commitment to share this sport with as many people as possible because of the health benefits & peace of mind it has given me. This sport is not only a great way to see the world, but it also helps us come closer to ourselves. Information gives us strength!
